Rachlin Announces Partner Promotions

MIAMI, FL— Rachlin LLP has announced that two of the firm’s principals,
José I. Marrero and Scott M. Freeman, have been named partners.

José Marrero, a retired IRS agent, is a partner in the firm’s Advisory Services division. At Rachlin, Marrero provides advisory and forensic services relating to corporate embezzlement, civil and criminal tax, due diligence, SEC-related investigations, partnership disputes, divorce proceedings and Suspicious Activity Reports. He joined Rachlin in 2004, after more than 28 years with the IRS.  There, Marrero served in many capacities including revenue agent, division chief/special agent in charge and deputy director in the Criminal Investigation Division.  As special agent in charge of the Miami field office, he was responsible for all criminal investigation resources in the southern district of Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  An enrolled agent and private investigator, Marrero also is second vice president of the National Association of Former Special Agents of the IRS.

Scott Freeman, a partner in the firm’s Tax and Business Services division, is a Certified Public Accountant with more than 17 years experience providing tax services to a variety of clients including multi-subsidiary consolidated groups, both public and privately held and middle-market, closely held corporations.  In addition to traditional tax compliance and research services, Freeman provides tax planning associated with complex issues.  He has experience in tax structuring for corporate acquisitions and determining tax consequences associated with subsidiary and asset dispositions.  He also works extensively with Rachlin’s Assurance group regarding “Accounting for Income Tax” matters governed by FAS 109 and FIN 48. Freeman is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Tax Council, Inc.

“José and Scott offer a wealth of experience and knowledge delivered with the passion, integrity and excellence that have always set Rachlin apart,” says Lawrence H. Blum, managing partner. “It is a privilege to announce they are now partners in the firm.”
